Treatment and Prevention

    The number of E. coli victims has risen in recent years.  Though there is no cure, there are some things you can do to protect yourself and others from this pathogen.  
    If you are showing signs and symptoms of E. Coli, contact a doctor immediately.  This infection could be fatal if not treated correctly.  A doctor must perform a stool test to see if a person is infected with E. coli.  
    If infected with the E. Coli, here are some tips to help prevent the spread of the pathogen.
-wash hands often
-dispose of soiled diapers carefully
-do not share anything with others

    The following are tips to help prevent infection of E. coli.
-Cook beef to a temperature of at least 160 degrees F.  Ground beef should be cooked until pink color is gone, but do not rely only on color. 
-Never eat raw meat
-wash cooking utensils, dishes, and countertops with disinfectant or hot water
-keep raw meat away from other foods
-only drink pasteurized products
-only drink chlorinated water
-when visiting other countries, drink bottled water
